Paris Club Loan Refund: Ogun Assembly May Clash with Gov. Amosun

Ogun state House of Assembly is angry with the state government for refusing to provide it with the details of how it disbursed the N10.5billion collected from the Presidency as the refund of deductions to service the Paris and London Club loan.

The house had given the state finance ministry and office of the state Accountant General in early March, a two-week deadline to furnish it with the details of the beneficiaries of the N10.5billion.
More than a month after the expiration of the deadline, the Assembly is still waiting for the list.
The finance commissioner, Wale Osinowo while appearing before the Assembly last February 14, had told the lawmakers that the N10.5 billion was used to settle the six months out of the arrears of deductions from civil servants salaries, and pensioners’ gratuities.
Osinowo at the meeting promised to furnish the lawmakers with details of beneficiaries.
The House issued the two weeks deadline early March, after waiting in vain for the finance commissioner and the Office of Accountant General to provide the promised details.
Since the expiration of the deadline last march 25, a member of the House leadership said on live program on Rockcity FM that the state government had promised three times to furnish the house with the list of beneficiaries of the fund, but failed to do so.
The lawmakers demanded for the list, after receiving petitions from former members of the state House of Assembly, who served between 2011 and 2015, as well as the state’s 20 local governments pensioners and political office holders, who claimed to have been left of the out of the list of beneficiaries.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun had earlier in April, promised to use part of the awaited second tranche of the Paris Club loan refund to  clear the remaining deductions and gratuities while receiving the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in his office.

Col. Bruce Hampton Collapses on Stage During Concert

Col. Bruce Hampton, 70, died shortly after collapsing on stage at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta on Monday night, during the final song of a four-hour tribute concert held in honor of his 70th birthday,   reports JamBase . In an unedited video, since removed from Youtube, Hampton collapsed after a John Popper harmonica solo and remained motionless on stage near a sound monitor for several minutes while members of the band played on. As JamBase reported, Hampton was sometimes known for his crazy stage antics, so it took a minute of two for everyone to realize something was really wrong with Hampton. Gov’t Mule guitarist Warren Haynes was one of the first to check on Hampton and help arrived shortly after, carrying Hampton off the stage as the show ended. Hampton, whose birth name is Gustav Berglund III, began his music career in the late 60’s with the Hampton Grease Band,   according to NPR . Hampton is credited with helping inspire many improvisational “jam band” artists incl...
